Become a Referee

Kids - If you are 13 years old or older with an interest in soccer (and earning some $$$), we encourage you to become a certified referee.  Des Moines Soccer Club needs you!

Parents - We strongly encourage you to certify with your child!  Refereeing is a great way for you to spend time with your child, learn more about the beautiful game, support the club, and of course get regular exercise!

More information and links to sign up for the online certification courses are available at the Iowa Soccer website http://www.iowasoccer.org/become_a_referee.

  1. Complete the IA – ONLINE 2020-21 GRASSROOTS REFEREE COURSE through th eUS Soccer learning Portal.

  2. Background Screening (Required for ages 18 and older)

  3. 2020 SafeSport Training (90 minute module required for ages 18 and older)

  4. 2020 Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments (30 minute presentation)

  5. Online Grassroots Referee Course (4 hour module - go at your own pace)

  6. 2021 First Time Grassroots Quiz (Do this last)

  7. Those who successfully complete all the required assignments will be contacted by an Instructor to participate in a 2-3 hour Virtual "In-Person" Grassroots Referee Course to cover how to get assigned to games, helpful resources available, US Soccer's annual registration process, and to answer any questions.

  8. Purchase your first Referee uniform kit.

Once you have taken and passed the course, email the DMSC Director of Referees to get set up in the assigning system and start refereeing games!

DMSC REFEREE SUPPORT AND BENEFITS

Certification Reimbursement - Referees who officiate more than 10 DMSC games each season in a calendar year, are eligible for reimbursement of the Grassroots Course Fees or Recertification Fee.

The Des Moines Soccer Club organizes several skill-building and refresher workshops throughout the year.  Referees who have officiated at least one game in the prior season will receive invitations via email.

Des Moines Soccer Club has no involvement at the club level regarding ISL (Competitive/Select) referees.  Competitive/Select are managed and paid through Iowa Soccer.

Currently Certified Referees

Recreational games are set to self-assign on Demosphere.  Sign up for games or check your schedule at https://iowasoccer.demosphere-secure.com.  

 

Currently certified referees who have not officiated for Des Moines Soccer Club, please contact referees@desmoinessoccerclub.org before self-assigning to our games.
